There are things you can see and places you can go in a campervan that you simple wouldn’t have experienced if you’d stuck with bog standard holidays, so what are the essential things to get right.

Van. There have been some nightmare stories of people failing to taking out reliable lease vans deals and the van dying within the first few miles. You obviously do not want the same thing to be happening on your trip so it’s usually best to buy a van and have it serviced by someone you trust, or hire/lease a van from a company that have a good reputation. Mercedes van leasing is a pretty good option as these vans are pretty sturdy and rarely break down, but always give them a good drive before you set off on your trip just to make sure everything works properly.

Money. You may think that you have budgeted for every eventuality, but you really can never know what is going to happen. You’ll have to take a certain amount of money for the essentials like food, drink and gas, but its well worth leaving some aside as a back up. Take some extra cash with you for things such as vehicle maintenance or any other emergency situation.A credit card is also something advisable to take as you never know when you will need to access larger sums of money.

Time. So you’ve got your Citroen van leasing sorted, you’ve packed it all up, now all you need is a relaxed state of mind. This is vital if you are going to enjoy yourself, as you can never account for the various hold-ups and distractions that will take place along the way on your travels. From the 1970’s onwards mountain biking has grown in popularity, which resulted in a number of companies making mens mountain bikes. There are several styles of mountain bike, each suitable for different styles of riding, so before you choose a bike you need to decide on your preferred style of riding.

Mens mountain bikes are generally made using high-tech, lightweight materials. They have technical gear systems, advanced suspension and brakes. Mountain bikes can be divided into four main types based on suspension.

These are as follows, Fully Rigid, which has a rigid fork and fixed rear suspension or no suspension at all. Hard tail, a frame with front suspension but no rear suspension. Soft Tail, that is a frame with rear suspension activated by the flex of the frame rather than pivots. And Full or Dual suspension, which has front and rear suspension.

There are loads of different categories of mountain bikes on the market as well. Of these the most popular include Cross Country (XC), All Mountain (AM), Trail Bikes and Freeride bikes.

Cross Country (or XC) mountain bikes are light in weight and only have a small amount of suspension. They are aimed at using on ascents and have fast turning capabilities.

Trail Bikes are a mixture of Cross Country and All Mountain bikes. They are excellent bikes covering all styles of mountain biking.

All Mountain Bikes offer fantastic suspension travel. They are designed to be able to ascend mild to moderate inclines and descend steep declines. These bikes are perfect for all levels of rider, adults or children.

Freeride bikes are a bit like downhill bikes. They are made with strength, not weight, in mind. They have excellent suspension and are usually built using strong, durable materials. They are excellent for riding technical downhills.

Which mountain bike you choose to invest in boils down mainly to your personal style of riding. You should decide what kind of riding you prefer doing on your bike. Do you prefer to ride smooth, easy trails, ascend high mountains, perform stunts, descend fast downhill trails, or just have all-round fun? There are lots of mens mountain bikes on the market covering all activities but it’s up to you to decide which one feels the best that is within your price range.

Camping has become increasingly popular in recent years as many parents take their children for weekend breaks in the countryside. Camping in the United Kingdom is plagued with risk. While there is very little risk of encounteruing Bears or poisonous Snakes there is every chance you will encounter some uncertain British weather.

But, as long as yiou have the right camping equipment you and your family can have a lot of fun, regardless of the weather. One of the most important pieces of camping kit has got to be your sleeping bags.

There are a bewildering number of sleeping bag designs to choose from, some costing only a few pounds and others costing a small fortune. So how can you make the right choice for you and your family?

The first thing to consider is the time of year that you will be using your sleeping bags. If you only expect to be camping during the hopefully warmer summer months then you will not need expensive, arctic quality sleeping bags.

Another consideration is packing. Will you be hiking with your sleeping bag in a backpack or will it never need to be crammed into a small pack? Size and weight will be important factors to bear in mind if you will be carrying your sleeping back in a backpack.

Its also worth considering who the sleeping bag is for, how big they are and what their comfort requirements might be. Some people (including my own partner) are never comfortable sleeping within the confines of a sleeping bag and lots of children prefer to have child size bags.

And lastly, the most important factor to consider which is, of course, price. You will find both down filled and polyester filled sleeping bags at a variety of prices. Down filled bags tend to be the most expensive and most suitable for winter and all year round use.

Your most economical sleeping bag is likely to be polyester filled and suitable for the warmer summer months only. For additional sleeping comfort add a sleeping matt or maybe an airbed.

Preparing yourself is the topic for this part of our activity holidays guide.

Properly preparing for going on activity holidays ensures that you have the best possible time whilst on them. You need to pay close attention to your physical fitness level, your expertise level in relation to the activities you will participate in, what gear and/or equipment you are going to need, and what sort of apparel to take with you.

You should engage in some aerobic activity (jogging, cycling, swimming, etc.) at least 30 minutes a day, 3 times a week as preparation. You should make sure you work up to a certain intensity level as you get closer to your activity holiday since you will probably be very physical through it with little down time.

Specific practicing for some activities (such as whitewater rafting or caving) might not be possible, but you can prepare specifically for others (such as rock climbing or skiing). If practicing for the specific activities on your holiday isn’t possible, the best fallbacks for preparation are cycling and walking.

Your activity holiday will more than likely require a few necessary items, so it important that you pay attention to the things your guide tells you to bring since they have been out there more than you and know what is needed. Aside from what the tour company suggests you bring, you should just bring the necessary basics since you will probably be carrying your bags (preferably a small daypack and a large bag) more than you might carry them on a typical holiday.

It is generally best to wear durable, comfortable, fast-drying garments, in layers. Take rain gear, warm jackets, hats for sun protection and cold weather, long and short pants, long and short sleeve shirts, additional clothing for non-sports activities and an extra pair of shoes incase your primary pair get wet. Swimwear and sunglasses are the only other items you might need.

Your equipment list will let you know if you will need outdoor equipment to take with you like a sleeping bag or a tent or even cooking and food supplies. Sometimes it is possible to rent things like this from the activity holiday tour company if you do not have them already. Your guide or instructor will carry a first aid kit for the group, but it is recommended that you take your own with you containing aspirin, bandages, insect repellent and other basics.
